This model represents an archaeal clade of anthranilate synthase component I enzymes. This enzyme (EC:4.1.3.27) is responsible for the first step of tryptophan biosynthesis from chorismate. The Sulfolobus enzyme has been reported to be part of a gene cluster for Trp biosynthesis [1].
