Phosphoribosylformylglycinamidine synthase is a single, long polypeptide in most bacteria. Three proteins are required in Bacillus subtilis and many other species. This is the longest of the three and is designated PurL, phosphoribosylformylglycinamidine synthase II, or FGAM synthase II.
