This family consists of several eukaryotic alkaline phytoceramidase (aPHC) sequences. Ceramidases are enzymes involved in regulating cellular levels of ceramides, sphingoid bases, and their phosphates. Alkaline phytoceramidase is responsible for the hydrolysis of phytoceramide [1].
