About the EBI Industry ProgrammeTraining and Education - Members have access to workshops and conferences run by the Industry Programme, covering all areas of research and development at the EBI. Research - The Industry Programme supports pre-competitive research and evaluation of new tools. Our industry partners influence the direction of research and have access to preliminary results and data. Standards - The EBI develops standards that protect our Industry Partners from becoming locked into proprietary solutions. As a neutral organization, the EBI has been involved in the promotion and development of standards for DNA microarray data, biomolecular sequence analysis and genomic maps. Development - We strive to improve the EBI's resources and services as requested by the Industry Partners. Industry Programme meetings - We organize two-day meetings for our partners on a quarterly basis. These meetings not only serve as a forum for discussion of project progress and future strategy, but also provide an opportunity for our partners to discuss issues informally and network on neutral territory. We invite commercial and academic speakers to talk at these meetings, specifically to give a scientific seminar and not a sales pitch! Examples of recent talks are listed opposite. Visitors' programme - This allows our Industry Partners to work at the EBI in collaboration with EBI staff, allowing them to align their strategy directly with EBI research. For example, the visitors' programme has allowed our industry partners to port the Ensembl database from MySQL to Oracle, collaborate on database design, and co-supervise masters students on industrial placement.
