ChEBI Users’ Workshop

19th-20th May 2008

Ch
emical Entities of Biological Interest (ChEBI) is a freely available dictionary of molecular entities focused on ‘small’ chemical compounds hosted and maintained by EMBL-EBI. The term ‘molecular entity’ refers to any constitutionally or isotopically distinct atom, molecule, ion, ion pair, radical, radical ion, complex, conformer, etc., identifiable as a separately distinguishable entity. The molecular entities in question are either products of nature or synthetic products used to intervene in the processes of living organisms.

ChEBI encompasses an ontological classification, whereby the relationships between molecular entities or classes of entities and their parents and/or children are specified.

The purpose of the workshop is to understand:

  • the current ChEBI functionality and curation process
  • how ChEBI is currently being used by different organisations
  • planned new developments
  • future opportunities that could be considered for further ChEBI
  • development/integration.

There will be a number of presentations by the ChEBI development team and key user groups along with a facilitated discussion on further potential activities.

The workshop is coordinated through the EBI ChEBI group and the EBI Industry Programme. The Scientific Coordinator is Dr. Christoph Steinbeck Head of Chemoinformatics and Metabolism (christoph.steinbeck@ebi.ac.uk). The Industry Programme coordinator is Dr. Dominic Clark (clark@ebi.ac.uk)
