Target CV Workshop

30 September -1 October 2008

Dear Associates,

The EBI will host a Target CV Workshop on the 30 September - 1 October 2008.

The venue will be the EBI IT Training room.

This workshop will build upon a topic that was first introduced to the industry programme discussion at the quarterly meeting of March 2008. At this meeting a number of the partners (including GSK, Pfizer, AZ, Merck and Roche) reported that they currently maintain internal systems that integrate protein target information (the target Curriculum Vitae). These are effectively aggregrated views of selected information which can be customised and are updated with new information in the public domain as it becomes available. As an example, information may include:

  • Summary
  • Gene Description
  • Classification
  • Function
  • Sequences and Isoforms
  • Motif Analysis
  • SNPs
  • Interactors
  • Therapeutic Portfolio
  • mRNA Expression Profile
  • Disease Association
  • Pathways

As well as other information.

A key question, therefore, is whether more or all of this information might be available/maintained in the public domain thereby reducing the overhead on companies and the replication of effort that occurs. Some “Target CV”-like features are already provided by EBI tools/services albeit via links. E.g. Integr8 is fed by the IPI pipeline.

There may an opportunity to dig into other existing EBI and other data resources using DAS, BioMart, web services and the ENFIN ENVISION project.

The purpose of the workshop is:

  • To understand industry programme partners current information aggregation use cases and desiderata in more detail.
  • To present existing EBI tools and resources that might contribute to existing or future anticipated needs.
  • To discuss development options within project and financial constraints
  • To agree an action plan and dates

Please send any comments or questions about the workshop agenda to Dominic Clark (clark@ebi.ac.uk).
Please send any comments of questions about the workshop logistics Liz Ford (ford@ebi.ac.uk

Registration is now open until Thursday 18 September 2008, 17:00 British Time.

Kind regards

Liz
