Druggability Portal Workshop

4-5 February 2008

Dear Associates,

The EBI will host a Druggability Portal Workshop on the 4-5th February 2008.

Venue: On Monday 4th February we will begin in room M203 in the Murray Building and after we will move to the EBI IT Training room.

As part of the EMBL-EBI's approach to making bioinformatics resources relevant to different research communities, we plan to introduce data and analysis systems to assist industrial researchers in interpreting genomic data in a pharmaceutical/agricultural context.

This workshop will build upon the discussions that have been initiated within the Industry Programme during 2007, resulting in the Druggability Portal discussion document, and the satellite meeting held at the EBI on 12th November 2007.

From these, it is clear that the most effective way to move this collaboration forward will be to work in concert with the key research centres who currently provide subsets of the relevant information. These include DrugBank (U. Alberta), PubChem (NCBI) and BindingDB (University of Maryland).

The keynote speakers at the workshop are: David Wishart and Michael Gilson, who are the principal investigators for DrugBank and Binding DB respectively.

The workshop will give an opportunity to:

  • Hear about current developments in DrugBank and BindingDB
  • Hear about the Druggability Portal proposal including presentations of mock-ups
  • Engage in discussions about potential international collaborations between the EBI, the EBI Industry Programme members and the key research centres.
  • Engage in discussions about potential applications to the Innotative Medicines Initiative in this context.

Kind regards

Liz
