Help - Bioinformatics Database searches
The new EBI website uses the new EB-eye Search engine, which you can use to query a range of EBI databases. Click here for help.
The EBI has a range of search engines available to query many types of molecular biology databases including; nucleotide sequence, protein sequence, protein function/interactions, gene expression & microarray, gene ontologies, biological structure, scientific literature & text mining and metabolic pathway databases. Please see the 'EBI Database Queries' page for search engines such as the SRS search engine or the UniProt Search engine.
More methods of searching various databases is available on the databases help page
There are tutorials for how to use search engines in the "2can Bioinformatics support portal ". Also you can have a look at the training site here.
Alternatively use the new BioMart query system, a simple and robust data integration system for large scale data querying, providing researchers with fast and flexible access to biological databases.
BioMart is a simple and robust data integration system for large scale data querying. It has been designed to provide researchers with an easy and interactive access to both the wealth of data available on the Internet and for in house data integration. BioMart is a successor to the generic query system originally developed for the Ensembl genome database (EnsMart). Building on its success, BioMart, has now been applied to other biological
databases.
The BioMart data model has been applied to the following data sources:
We believe the integrative approach presented here is an attractive alternative to the existing solutions and will become crucial to the further exploitation of biological data. We hope that the open data, software and general design principles of BioMart provide an excellent starting point for this field.
