Genomes Pages - Whole Genome Shotgun entries
Methods using whole genome shotgun data are used to gain a large amount of genome coverage for an organism. WGS data for a growing number of organisms are being submitted to DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank and are made available via EBI's Sequence Retrieval System (SRS) at http://srs.ebi.ac.uk and the EBI FTP server at ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/wgs/. WGS accession-number structure: <4 letters><2 digits><6 digits> or <4 letters><2 digits><7 digits> where, <4 letters> = set_id <2 digits> = set_version <6 digits> or <7 digits> = contig_id Example: AAAA01000001.1 Oryza sativa L. ssp. Indica Whole Genome Shotgun sequences have been assigned the set_id 'AAAA', the project accession-number is AAAA00000000. The accession number of the first version of the rice WGS data is AAAA01000000 and the first sequence in that set is acc#.version AAAA01000001.1 Note: When a given WGS project is updated, ALL contigs from the first version are replaced by ALL contigs from the second version. Sequence similarity search tools for WGS data sets are available at http://www.ebi.ac.uk/fasta33/wgs.html List of WGS projects (Status 30-SEP-2013)
