UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot is an important project bringing together several expertises from around the world. The presentation will depict the challenges ahead in terms of maintaining expert-based-curation, the scalibity of these efforts with the deluge of sequencing data and the fact that a high quality resource allows to ground and enhance different scientific domains. The presentation will articulate an important aspect of quality over quantity with several examples taken from our joint effort between the SIB-PIR-EBI making UniProt a unique resource. I will finally discuss if time permits the involvment of the Vital-IT infrastructure efforts and some other SIB resources within the european context of ELIXIR.
