Forthcoming Changes

29 May 2012 WGS FTP directories to be split

Due to the increasing number of WGS sets the WGS FTP directory structure will be split by the two first letters of the WGS set prefix. For example, all WGS sets starting with 'aa' will be in directory ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/release/wgs/aa/.

2 Feb 2012 Submissions in .sqn format no longer accepted

From March 1st, 2012, ENA's EMBL-Bank will no longer accept submissions in '.sqn' format. Submitters who use Sequin as an annotation and submission tool are asked to save and export their sequences in EMBL format, which is supported by Sequin, prior to submission to EMBL-Bank. However, we encourage our submitters, to use ENA's submission tool, Webin, as our preferred submission route since this offers simplicity of use, greater consistency and validation of data. Please check http://www.ebi.ac.uk/ena/about/embl_bank_submissions for more details on Webin or go directly to https://www.ebi.ac.uk/embl/genomes/submission/login.jsf to register/login.

19 Sep 2011 Introduction of sequence length limit for assembled sequences

From January 2012, ENA's EMBL-Bank will accept sequences shorter than 100 base pairs only if they fall into one of the following sequence categories: ancient DNA, non-coding-RNA, microsatellites or complete exons.

Exceptions require the submitter to demonstrate that a peer-reviewed journal has accepted a manuscript by the submitter, confirming the relevance of the short sequences to the scientific community.

Oligonucelotide primer sequences will only be accepted if they have been primarily sequenced by the submitter.

10 Jun 2011 INSDC controlled vocabulary for ncRNA classes: snoRNA definition

The INSDC has updated the definition of snoRNAs in order to include RNA molecules involved in chemical modification and processing of other RNAs from organisms that do not have the nucleolar localization, e.g. archaea. The updated definition for snoRNAs can be found at: http://insdc.org/rna_vocab.html
