Public Beta Version of our New Webin Submission System
We have launched a public beta version of our new Webin submission system, available at http://www.ebi.ac.uk/embl/Submission/index.html. The new system offers user accounts, improved on-the-fly validation of data entered and integrated taxonomic and Feature Table help browsing. Please note that the beta version of our sequence submission system is not appropriate for submissions of more than 10 sequences, long sequences (greater than 30kb), entries with a large number of features and entries which include segmented CDS.
We welcome testing of the system, but please make it clear in the comments whether you intend us to process the submission or if you are just testing.
We look forward to your feedback to datasubs@ebi.ac.uk.

UNSCHEDULED RELEASE 98
An unscheduled release, release 98, is being created to rectify a cross-reference problem in release 97 and is due to be made public in the week beginning the 18th of January 2009. Specifically, /db_xref qualifiers were missing from CDS features in error. There were no further problems and no incorrect cross-reference information was shown. Augmented testing procedures have now been implemented that will identify any future problems of this type in advance of any public distribution. We will resume our normal quarterly release cycle with release 99 in March 2009.
Release 98 entries contain all /db_xrefs in CDS features where appropriate. No further changes have been made, with the exception that data received, updated and removed between the freeze dates of releases 97 and 98 have been included in release 98.
For users of releases who also track daily data update products for synchrony, we suggest that you process this release, as subsequent update products will relate to it. For users who do not track updates between releases and have no dependence upon CDS /db_xrefs, we suggest that it is not necessary to process this release to sustain customary levels of synchrony.
Please contact datasubs@ebi.ac.uk with any queries.

Next Generation Sequencing data archive opens for submissions
Submissions of data from Next Generation Sequencing Platforms, such as those of 454, Illumina and ABI SOLiD, are now accepted at the EBI. This is a new service under the European Nucleotide Archive that will provide utility for those generating and using data for such applications as genome assembly, re-sequencing for polymorphism analysis, gene expression, epigenomics and others. In the first instance, we are collecting submitted data and making it available to users upon request. In due course, we will introduce more sophisticated data access tools. For further details and for new submissions, please contact datasubs@ebi.ac.uk. Please note that submissions of conventional capillary sequencing data continue as normal; please also contact datasubs@ebi.ac.uk.
