The 15th European Conference on Computational Biology (ECCB 2016) will provide travel fellowships, partly supported by the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), to help students and postdocs presenting a poster or a paper to attend the conference.
Fellowship grantees will be communicated the source of support and must acknowledge it in their paper or poster, and in their presentation if applicable. The award will depend on your geographical location. The minimal amounts are listed below. The maximum amount that you will be reimbursed is depending on the number of applications and will be included in your award letter. Grantees may be requested to volunteer up to half a day during the conference.
Italian students and post-docs are advised that the Italian Society for Bioinformatics (BITS) is also proposing travel fellowship independently from ECCB 2016. Please find more information below.
Travel fellowships will pay for a partial contribution towards lodging, conference registration, and travel expenses. Affiliated expenses, such as evening meals, workshops, tutorials, late registration fees, and satellite meetings will not be eligible for reimbursement. The grant will be sent to the funded applicant after the ECCB 2016 conference.
The conference organizers are committed to providing support to as many eligible applicants as possible. However, our funding sources are limited and we regret that we are not able to fund all applicants. Applying for a fellowship does not guarantee that you will receive funding. If you require a fellowship to attend the conference, do not register until after you have been notified that you have received an award.
Applicant must be listed as an author or co-author on the original submission of an accepted ECCB 2016 proceedings paper, highlight paper, application, ELIXIR application or poster. Submitters to possible new calls closing after June 10 (e.g. late breaking calls) are not eligible for fellowship funding due to late deadlines for these tracks. The funded applicant must be the presenting author of the work, i.e. only one person will be considered per submission; multiple authors applying with the same submission for a fellowship will not be considered.
The applicant must either be registered in a degree program, undergraduate or graduate (MSc or PhD programme), or hold a postdoctoral research position at an accredited university or college at the time of the conference. Evidence of eligibility (e.g. a student ID card) must be presented if your application has been approved, more details can be found under ‘instructions’.
The applicant must register for ECCB 2016 before July 29, 2016. The applicant must submit receipts for travel that equal or exceed the announced award amount to receive the full award funding. Details of receipt submission and funding distribution will be included in the acceptance letter.
The call for travel fellowhips is closed. After the submission deadline, no changes to your application can be made. Multiple applications and applications without evidence of eligibility will be excluded.
You will be notified by e-mail latest by July 18, 2016 if your application has been approved for funding. You will receive an acceptance letter including further details. Funded applicants will be required to present evidence of their eligibility status (such as student identification card) by sending a digital copy by e-mail to fellowships@eccb2016.org.
All travel fellowship recipients will be required to register and pay in advance for ECCB 2016 before the early registration deadline (July 29, 2016). If your attendance at the ECCB 2016 conference is dependent on receipt of a travel fellowship, please do not register until after the notification of travel fellowships.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: You must submit a paper or poster before you submit a travel fellowship application. However, you do not have to wait till the notification deadline! Applications received after the deadline of the travel fellowship call (July 7, 2016) will not be considered!
Questions regarding fellowships should be addressed to fellowships@eccb2016.org.
