CC   The two genes for the PstI restriction-modification system are
CC   encoded on opposite strands and are transcribed from separate
CC   promoters. The restriction endonuclease contains 326 amino acids.
CC   The modification enzyme contains 507 amino acids. The close
CC   proximity of the transcription initiation points of the two genes
CC   (70 bp) suggests that the promoters overlap. The -10 regions for
CC   the two genes are found at bp 2307-2302 (MME) and 2352-2357 (PstI).
CC   Bases 2267-2340 are protected from DNaseI digestion. The PstI
CC   restriction-modification system is a type II system. The two
CC   enzymes both recognize the hexanucleotide sequence 'ctgcag'. The
CC   modification enzyme protects this sequence from cleavage by PstI by
CC   methylation of its adenosine residue. PstI cleaves the DNA between
CC   the adenosine and guanine residues, leaving 'sticky ends' of 4 bp.
