Marti Bernardo Faura
Postdoc fellow - Saez-Rodriguez research group
I am from Barcelona, where I studied a B.Sc. in Engineering of Computer Systems at the Universitat de Barcelona, followed by a M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Industry and Biotechnology at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. I worked on my master thesis at the German Center for Cancer Research (DKFZ), with a focus on data-driven methods to study the crosstalk between autophagy and apoptosis in cancer cells. During my PhD at the Universität Heidelberg and BioQuant, I developed modelling methods based on Fuzzy Logic and Neuro-fuzzy in order to study the dynamic evolution of signalling networks in cancer as a consequence of pharmacological treatment. To that end, we integrated both high-content live imaging single cell data and population-wide phosphoproteomic measurements. As a postdoc, I joined the Saez-Rodriguez lab at EBI to further explore the close combination of experimental and modelling methods to understand deregulation of signalling in disease, with a focus on Multiple Sclerosis. In this project funded by the European Union 7FP Framework Program, our role consists in elucidating signalling changes in cohorts of patients under different treatment in order to facilitate discovery of new therapies.
