Team Leader - O'Donovan team: Metabolomics
Claire O’Donovan leads the Metabolomics team at EMBL-EBI, providing a reference resource for data from metabolomics experiments. Prior to stepping into this role in early 2017, Claire led the Protein Function Content team at EMBL-EBI for many years, providing essential resources to the biological community through the biocuration of UniProt, the Gene Ontology Annotation project (GOA) and the Enzyme portal. Claire joined EMBL in 1993, and has been integral to the evolution of the biocuration field. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society for Biocuration.

Our team provides the biomedical community with information on metabolism: small molecules and their interplay with biological systems.
We are responsible for MetaboLights, a resource for data from metabolomics experiments and derived information. The database is cross-species, cross-technique and covers metabolite structures and their reference spectra as well as their biological roles, locations and concentrations, and experimental data from metabolic experiments. We develop methods to process chemical information, predict metabolomes based on genomic and other information, determine the structure of metabolites by stochastic screening of large candidate spaces, and enable the identification of molecules with desired properties.
MetaboLights is the recommended Metabolomics repository for a number of leading journals, including Nature Scientific Data, BioMed Central, Metabolomics, PLOS, F1000 and the EMBO journals.
