Post-Doc position available Dietrich Rebholz-Schuhmann, MD, PhD - Research Group Leader
European Bioinformatics Institute, Wellcome Trust Genome Campus
Hinxton, Cambridge, CB10 1SD (UK)
This is an opportunity for a Post-Doc position in the Rebholz group at the EBI for about 6 months or more. The opportunity
would be available from July onwards and the latest starting point would be in October 2010. The position gives the opportunity to do
research in
- Named entity recognition using large-scale resources in the biomedical domain, exploitation
of the term repository, optimisation of NER on the CALBC corpus and other corpora,
disambiguation of ambiguous types over the full range of semantic types
- Extraction of facts and assertions from a pre-tagged corpus, parsing of a large annotated
corpus, cross-validation against bioinformatics data resources
- Semantic Web data retrieval across literature, functional annotations of proteins and
expression levels of proteins, contribution to the annotation of gene-disease annotations
- Any combination of (1) – (3) that is scientifically sound, fits to the Rebholz group and fits to
your own interests
If you are working closely together with a master / PhD student and want to continue this work
during the time at the EBI by bringing your colleague along then this is also possible, subject to
negotiation.
My ongoing research:
- Normalisation of terminological resources and their exploitation for literature analysis and
bioinformatics research
- To a limited extend: different forms of parsing for fact extraction
- Fact and assertion extraction from the literature, cross-comparison against bioinformatics
data resources, knowledge discovery, identification of explicit and implicit gene-disease
associations
- We work on Medline, patents and full text. We have developed applications, but are now
more focused to core research and knowledge discovery.
Application requirements

you want to profit from an interdisciplinary environment
