GO:0048096 chromatin-mediated maintenance of transcription

Maintenance of transcription by remodelling of chromatin into an 'open configuration'. Once established, this regulation is mitotically stable and is maintained over many cell divisions. It is also heritable.

Term Information

ID GO:0048096
Name chromatin-mediated maintenance of transcription
Ontology Biological Process
Definition Maintenance of transcription by remodelling of chromatin into an 'open configuration'. Once established, this regulation is mitotically stable and is maintained over many cell divisions. It is also heritable.
Comment Note that this process is the opposite of chromatin silencing. This regulation is exemplified by members of the trithorax group, which maintain the active state of homeotic gene transcription.

Ancestor Chart

Visual display of a section of the GO directed acyclic graph (DAG) for a single GO term. Terms in the GO are linked to parent (more general) terms and often to child (more specific) terms by one or more 'relationships'

All GO terms displayed in this graph can be clicked to display term definitions and child (descendent) terms.
