GO Slims and GO Term Comparison

GO slims are subsets of GO terms from the whole Gene Ontology. They tend to consist of a limited number of high-level GO terms that have been selected to provide an overview of some or all of the content of GO (see the GO Consortium documentation).

Creating a new GO slim

1. If the collection of GO identifiers has already been determined, users can add these to the 'Term Collection' text box on this page, whereupon terms can be viewed, modified and annotations mapped.
2. Alternatively, while browsing through the GO hierarchy in QuickGO, users can select a set of GO terms in the 'Your selection' basket (displayed at the top of the page) by clicking the icons which appear adjacent to terms. Links in the 'Your selection' pop-up box allow users to view, modify and map annotations to this GO term set.

Using Predefined GO Slim sets

A number of slims have been created by GO Consortium groups. These are listed in the 'Predefined GO Slim sets' section below, and can be used directly or modified.

Once a set of terms has been entered, users can use the 'Find Annotation' section on this page to map GO annotations to the selected slim set.
