Abstract/
Additional Info |
This Wellcome Trust Scientific Conference will provide
a forum for discussions about post-genomic research in
humans and other organisms.
The complete genome sequences of hundreds of organisms
have provided the list of components required to make an
organism viable. High-throughput functional genomic
technologies continue to generate vast amounts of
information describing the functions and interactions of
these components within the cell. Through the combined
use of computational and experimental techniques, we
are now beginning to achieve comprehensive mappings
of cellular and molecular networks. However, there are
major challenges to interpret these data in a biological
meaningful fashion: how should we integrate these
disparate data sources, and utilise them to improve our
understanding of complex biological systems and diseases.
Rather than focusing on a particular subject, we will cover
a diverse selection of areas in post-genomic science.
Topics will include:
• High throughput technologies and their applications
• Cellular assays and imaging
• Functional genomics of disease and model organisms
• Single cell/molecule level analysis
• Genome regulation
• Human genetic variation and disease
• Visualisation and modelling of biological networks
and pathways
• Frontiers in computational biology |

Bioinformatics of Human and Animal Genomics We are pleased to announce the 1st Cold Spring Harbor Asia conference on Bioinformatics of Human and Animal Genomes.
This conference is similar in design to the famous Cold Spring Harbor meetings series, a program now in its 76th year. The conference will include eight oral sessions and one poster session covering the latest findings across many topics in Bioinformatics biology research. Many talks will be selected from the openly submitted abstracts on the basis of scientific merit and relevance. Social events throughout the conference provide ample opportunity for informal interactions.
Topics:
- Genome sequencing and analysis
- Epigenetic and functional genomics
- Multiomic bioinformatics integration
- Cancer genomics
- Genetic analysis of disease and natural traits
- Databases and Ontologies

OBJECTIVE:
Parallel advances in two relatively disconnected areas of science are
boosting our understanding of biological systems. On the one hand,
systems biology, with its integration of high-throughput biological data
and its emphasis on quantitative modeling and simulation, is providing a
global perspective of biology that goes beyond classical reductionist
approaches. On the other hand, new sequencing technologies are
developing at an enormous speed, and provide whole genome data that
previously revealed unexplored genomic features such as functional
intergenic regions, copy number variations and other genomic
differences between members of the same species. In the Conference, we
will gather an inter-disciplinary group of scientists with roots in these
two disciplines with the aim to create a forum to discuss new ideas and
explore what lies in the overlap between these two growing fields. |

RECOMB::DREAM 2011The 6th Annual DREAM on Reverse Engineering Challenges, the 7th Annual RECOMB Satellite on Systems Biology, and the 8th Annual RECOMB Satellite on Regulatory Genomics will be held jointly at the IDIBELL institute (Biopol’H park, L’Hospitalet, Barcelona) on October 14-19, 2011. The meeting will start at 9am on Friday October 14, 2011, and run till 6pm on Wednesday October 19, 2011 (October 14: DREAM; October 16-17: Systems Biology; October 18-19: Regulatory Genomics).
This year there is the addition of a fourth conference: IDIBELL Conference on Cancer Informatics (RICCI), to be held at the same venue on October 15, 2011. The goal of this conference is to discuss the present and future research directions on bioinformatics and systems biology to better understand the mechanisms of carcinogenesis, with implications in prevention, prognosis and treatment.

Meeting Focus - Defining and quantifying all the proteins in a cell/tissue or organism is one of the current grand challenges in proteomics. The resulting 'proteome maps' would have critical applications in many arenas and would support a completely new view of the protein world. Recent developments in technology have allowed increasingly rapid progress towards this goal of whole 'proteome maps' but much more remains to be done if we are to characterise those proteins that are, so far, recalcitrant to analysis - the 'hidden proteome'.
The meeting will bring together international researchers working in disciplines integral to uncovering the 'hidden proteome' to review progress, consider biological insights gained from such studies, and to prioritize future challenges. The program of the meeting places emphasis on clinical applications including the identification of disease biomarkers and opportunities in current large scale studies such as the Human Proteome Project. |

Abstract/
Additional Info |
The conference will gather the current expertise in systems biology approaches used to tackle 4 domains of research: cell cycle, cellular signaling, metabolism and stem cells. The conference will be followed by a workshop where bioinformatics tools developed for predicting discrete protein function, reconstructing networks, and model molecular systems will be demonstrated.
The conference is organized by the European Network of Excellence ENFIN, which develops infrastructure for data integration, bioinformatics tools and assessment to enhance Systems Biology in Europe. |
