Travelling Directions

Directions for getting to the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus and the EBI by car, bus, train and plane.



The Wellcome Trust Conference Centre

The Wellcome Trust Conference Centre is an outstanding venue offering world-class facilities for all types of events. The facilities are available to non-campus organisation. Please contact the conference sales office on the telephone number below for more details.

The Conference Centre is open Monday to Friday, 8am until 6pm. Outside of these hours, arrivals should check-in with the Campus security staff as indicated on the Site Map. Upon arrival personal details are obtained via registration cards which are filled out by participants when they collect their keys.

All residential rooms have their own telephone lines, payphones are available in the Conference Centre. All rooms also have ethernet lines with free high-speed access to the internet. Ethernet cables are available for purchase from the Conference Centre reception, which also has a small shop selling commonly forgotten items such as toothpastes and deodorant etc.

If needed, payment for the residential rooms can be made in cash (UK Pounds Sterling only), by cheque or by credit card: Switch, MasterCard, Visa, Solo are all accepted, please note American Express and Diner's Club cars are not.

Meals

Meals will be served Monday to Friday at the following times generally at the Site Restaurant:Restaurant Menu

    Lunch: 12:00 - 14:00

Mail and Messages

The conference centre telephone number is +44 (0)1223 495 000, fax +44 (0)1223 495 114 and telephone enquiries after 5:00pm are routed to the Sanger security office. During working hours messages and mail for participants will be displayed on a notice board in the foyer of the conference centre.



ID. Badges

Participants are required to wear identification badges at all times. Visitors must report to reception to collect their badges.



Insurance

Participants are responsible for arranging their own health and accident insurance. The EBI will not be held liable for accidents, theft, or property damage.

Banking Services

There is a cash machine in the Sanger Institute, but this will charge you for the withdrawal. There are banks in Sawston, Duxford and Saffron Walden, and the nearest Lloyds cash machine is at the BP Service station, 2 miles from the site.



Electrical Voltage

UK electrical current is 50 Hz, 240 V. Adapters may be required to connect some equipment to the standard UK power outlets. Participants should equip themselves with the needed adapters.



No Smoking Policy

The Genome Campus has been designated as a non-smoking environment. Smoking is not permitted within any buildings on the campus. Smoking outside is only permitted in certain designated smoking areas on the Campus:
  • Smoking area 1, is designated as the smoking shelter on South Road, outside the entrance to G Block staircase - just before Killby & Gayford Compound.
  • Smoking area 2, is designated as the decked area adjacent to the car park ramp half way down South Road.
  • Smoking area 3, is designated as the smoking shelter on the hard standing area outside buildings J & K (The Sequencing Centre).
  • Smoking area 4, is designated as the decked area abutting the kitchen wall, outside the Hall Restaurant.
Two further areas have been designated for the use of Conference Centre delegates only.
  • Outside the main entrance to the Conference Centre.
  • Outside the main entrances to the Residential blocks.




Parking

Cars must be parked only in designated areas, e.g. the visitors car park, by the residential block, or in the over-flow car park.



Taxis

Taxis from local railway stations or Stansted airport to the Genome Campus costs between 10 and 20 pounds. Taxis accept cash only. Public transport buses also serve the Genome Campus. Inquire at the Registration Desk about schedules and routes.
