Sequence Retrieval System (SRS) <<< 4/8 >>>
High degree of linking between databases
The strength of SRS as a sequence retrieval system is a result of the very high degree of linking that is provided between the databases in the system. Data becomes much more valuable in the context of other data. There are two types of links provided by SRS:
- html links – these enrich the original data
-
indexed links – these links reflect equal values of named entry attributes in two databases
The indexed links are bidirectional. Using this linking graph, SRS makes it possible to link databases that do not contain direct cross references to each other. These indexed links allow you to ask questions like:
- Give me all the proteins that share InterPro domains with my protein
- Give me all the known 3D structures of this set of globin proteins
- Give me all the compound entries that are part of this reaction
SRS also functions as a data analysis applications server >>>
