caviae is a Gram-negative bacterium and is an obligate intracellular
bacterial pathogen belonging to the order Chlamydiales,
which currently comprises four families. They are Chlamydiaceae,
Parachlamydiaceae, Simkaniaceae and Waddliaceae.
