Thermoplasma
volcanium is an Aero/anaero-facultative, heterotrophic organism,
that grows optimally at pH<2 and elevated temperatures (optimum
growth temperature 60C). At the time of sequencing the complete
genome,
Thermoplasma volcanium had the lowest optimum growth
temperature (OGT) among the archaea whose complete genomic sequences
have been determined.
